A large format over sized Parlophone Records promotional card that has been autographed on the front by The Beatles in black ballpoint pen.
Each signature is very bold and clear. On the reverse side of the card George Harrison has added the signatures of John Lennon and Ringo Starr in black ballpoint pen, Ringo Starr has added the signatures of Paul McCartney and George Harrison in blue ballpoint pen.
The autographs were obtained backstage at the Grafton Rooms, Liverpool on June 12th 1963. The group were performing at the venue at a concert in aid of the children’s charity ‘NSPCC’ and they did not charge a fee for the performance.
Also on the bill were local Merseybeat group ‘The Undertakers’ whose lead vocalist and bass player was Jackie Lomax. Lomax later went on to have a successful solo career and he also signed to The Beatles ‘Apple Records’ label.
The autographs were signed for Lomax’s wife Dionne Lomax. They come with a letter from her that reads ‘This autograph was signed for me by “The Beatles” at the Grafton Rooms in June 1963. Also on the bill were “The Undertakers” and I was married to Jackie Lomax by then, I spent a lot of time in the band room! The Beatles were our friends and they happily signed the photo, even messing about and doing each other’s signatures on the back of the picture!’.
It measures 19cm x 12.5cm (7.4 inches x 4.9 inches). The promotional card has a crease around two thirds up that runs horizontally across it, it is quite difficult to see from the front of the card. It also has some creasing to the corners. Overall the piece is still very bright and presentable. The condition is very good.
